If you build or operate power projects in South Africa, and sub-saharan Africa, you know the approvals path can get complex fast. Different authorities, grid codes and local consents all interact with your engineering, procurement and financing timelines. Our role is to keep the project moving in a clear, coordinated way. Alpenglow provides energy regulatory support in Africa that is tailored to the project country, utility, technology and contract you are working with. Each mandate is led by our senior team and supported by a network of partner accredited specialists, including licensed Environmental Assessment Practitioners, power-system experts, land-use planners and legal advisors. We ensure a single point of contact to coordinate RFIs, regulator engagement and the handoffs between technical work-streams and commercial gates.
A quick example from a 5 MW CHP IPP project: we mapped the approvals early, scoped the environmental and grid authorisation works so it fed into downstream permits, and set up a single contact point for authorities. With complete, authority-aligned packs; the process stayed organised and responsive for the whole project team.
Where we help
Grid connection and network access, including utility liaison and the applicable national grid code
Energy regulator licensing and registration
ESIA, EIA or Basic Assessment , as required by national law
Land and local consents such as rezoning and project related approvals
Technology-specific permits such as air emissions, water use, boiler or fuel-burning appliances, aviation or obstacle assessments, and heritage or biodiversity
Compliance tracking and reporting, including conditions trackers, dependency and risk registers, and structured updates
How we work
Scope and country readiness, then strategy and dossier building, then submission and regulator liaison, and finally conditions tracking and close out. We keep the proprietary detail for engagements, while the framework stays consistent.
